Ginger Pig Wanstead opened in July 2016 following the closure of a previous butcher’s shop, which had been operating for the previous 90 years. It was important to us to preserve a piece of this impressive history, whilst also breathing new life into the store and making our mark. As a result we designed a contemporary site which feels fresh and modern whilst still referencing the traditional British butcher’s shop.
The most impressive fixture is a vast bespoke display window, especially built to showcase large hanging joints, dry aged beef fore ribs and other spectacular cuts. Traditionally shaped floor tiles made from natural clays, based on Vitctorian designs line the floor; large pendant copper lights hang above the meat and deli counters to create an industrial edge. The copper theme continues with copper surrounds on the base of the service counters, and a copper rail running around the wall of the shop completes the look.
Like all GP shops, Wanstead will concentrate on quality fresh meat from native breed animals reared naturally and slowly.
Nearest tube stations are Wanstead and Snaresbrook.
