Customers are regulaly asking the Ginger Pig if we they can buy on line and have meat delivered. We would be keen to hear from customers whether they would like to buy meat this way.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

The problem with buying quality meat online as opposed to visiting the butcher is that you can't check the cut of the meat first.

Personally, I'd rather go out of my way to visit the shop...but I suppose for those who cannot get there, at least they know they're getting a delivery of quality meat.

But if demand is there, and people will pay the premium for delivery, packaging and e-commerce website construction, then I say do it.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I would gladly buy all my meat from Ginger Pig, but I've got three kids, under six years old, so even if I had the time or energy to get to your shop/s on a regular basis, I don't have enough arms free to carry home the amount of meat I'd like to buy. Instead , I buy from other - online - butchers and reserve my visits to Ginger Pig for 'treats' when I'm out and about with mates.
In other words: an online delivery service would be a huge bonus. It wouldn't stop me visting you at Borough Market - nothing compares to the joy of watching your guys butcher the meat right in front of me - but it would stop me giving my money to your competitors.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

It would be great to buy Ginger Pig meat on line as I don't live anywhere near any of the shops. I am always reading about how good your meat is and would love to buy it. At the moment I buy meat on line from Donald Russell and they are superb however I would much prefer to buy pork products that are the rare breeds and I have been unable to find anywhere locally that can supply that. I really hope that you decide to go down this route, let the rest of the country benefit from quality pork products.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I agree with all the comments that buying it online would only be a supplement to visiting the shops but it would make life in busy times much easier. Most importantly though we would add the site to our wedding lists so instead of starting my married life with matching towels I could start it with your lovely meat! oh and if you could add the butchery courses to the online site that would also be very good!

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I would probably buy your meat online.

But you could improve on that and just open a shop in south West London instead?

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I've friends around the country who have tucked into the gorgeous beef and pork from the Ginger Pig when I've had them visit me in London or i've actually taken it to them. They'd love to be able to buy online, it's the first thing they always ask.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

Having just heard about you on Breakfast TV, i've looked up your company hoping to sample your wares. However living 2hrs away from London, I'm unable to get to any of your shops. I'd love to be able to try your products by purchasing them online and maybe would become a regular customer........if only I had the chance!

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

The only meat I buy on-line is chicken - one free-range, organic chicken from whichever on-line store is more-or-less the same as another. When it comes to joints of pork, beef or lamb etc though I don't really know what I'm after until I've seen what's in the displays and what's hanging in the fridge. I prefer to see what's in and what looks good and see what takes my fancy - I much prefer the experience of shopping for meat in person than clicking a mouse - but then I'm lucky enough to work few minutes walk from Borough Market. Also, when you're buying a few large joints or a joint and several chops/sausages etc, you can't negotiate any discounts on-line can you?

We'd love to feature you on www.SheerLuxe.com but we only feature companies that sell online via their own website so if and when you do sell online do please get in touch with us. Your products are top quality and we'd love to recommend them to our readers!

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I have sampled the fantastic beef from the Ginger pig in the Borough Market and would love to be able to but this produce regularly. sadly there is no opportunity to do so and I'm a Yorkshire man!
The info about the Deli in Pickering seems to suggest you can't but Yorkshire meat in this Yorkshire shop - why is this?

I am really missing the Ginger Pig sausages and would love to be able to buy online as we live nowhere near one of the shops.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

The Ginger Pig meat I have had has always been of the best quality. I would have trust that the meat picked for me and delivered via on-line ordering would be of the same quality that I chose myself in a shop or from Borough Market.

Please open yourself up to on-line delivery!

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

Buying fresh food online can be a gamble, but luckily I'm a regular at Borough Market and now I know and respect the business would be happy to buy online if/when I can't get there in person. However, if you follow this route don't dilute quality in order to meet demand and please avoid developing into an all-purpose online food store.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

We enjoy going into your shops and chatting to the butchers...but due to time constraints, three kids and the fact that we live in Battersea, doesn't always make that possible...so online would be fabulous!!!

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

For those of us who live in the country visting your shops is a treat but give us on-line service and I'll bite your hand off !! We have the award-winning Eastwood's here but your meat is just as good and cheaper

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I'd buy it on line, as I've tried it and know you provide quality meat - it's not like buying from a site with no track record. On the other hand, I'd prefer to come in for the chat, if I could make it... However, like other bloggers, I have friends who have had your meat and want to buy it but don't live near enough to your shops. Go on, sell online, then I can stop lugging joints and sausages around the country for them!!

Would love to try your sausage rolls made to Elizabeth David recipe - I've just read about them in December's Vogue! I came on here to see if I could order online but will have to make a special trip sometime...

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

Yes, yes, yes please! Amazing idea. I absolutely trust all of your cuts are of amazing quality, so would absolutely trust in what turned up at my door being of the best quality. Working long hours getting to the butcher is very hard, and I absolutely deplore supermarket meat, so sometimes struggle to get any meat at all, an order and delivery service would solve that problem and make my husband and I very happy!

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

Having been a good customer of your victoria park shop since it opened i would recomend you open a online store i have tried to phone the store all day and not been able to get through once... not a good thing as i would like to order a good deal of meat for xmas. i may have to go elsewhere now as i simply dont have the time to keep trying or visit the store at this time of year!!!

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I too am surprised that you do not yet sell online. Although I use Borough Market every Friday, on my way to London Bridge, I am sure that I would buy online as well as continuing to visit your really friendly and helpful butchers.

That said the most important thing is for you to maske sure that you keepup the quality of your produce. There are many people even in these difficult times who are happy to pay a significant premium for really high quality food.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I'm not near any of the shops and dont get to London very often. Even if I do, traveling on the train with meat on the luggage rack does pose a few problems!
I would buy sausages on line, the quality is always consistent and its worth the premium, but might want to see any large joints first.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

Living near Spitalfields (opposite the Hawksmoor restaurant you supply!) it's a pain buying decent meat. Tesco metro is rubbish, Brick Lane is only good for average quality lamb and chicken.

The butcher at spitalfield market is ok, but thats only once every week.

I think online would be good (I'd use it!), or maybe I can suggest another option. Why not use restaurants and places you supply to and mini distribution points?

You pay for the meat online and ask it to be sent to the nearest place that The Ginger Pig currently supplies to, then you go and pick it up from the venue when its open?

That way you go into the restaurant and get to meet them, and I'd probably go to the restaurant more often. It'd keep costs down as your vans are already delivering to the places. Nobody else is doing it - a new window of opportunity or am I going mad?

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I too am a massive fan of your meat, although other than picking up my wares when i happen to find myself at Borough Market I dont have a shop near enough to me to buy regularly. I just started buying meat online this week as I am trying to simplify the way i shop for everything - to have the chance to buy GingerPig meat online would be great. I think with lots of other consumer conscious competitors out there offering delivery that it must be the obvious next step in helping you guys to stay ahead of the competition.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I have just sampled a piece of your wonderful sausage roll! It was to die for... I am constantly looking for meat that is of high quality where the animal has recieved an exceptional standard of animal welfare and I think your meat and what "Ginger Pig" stands for totally fits the bill and sets an amazing example to others! To be able to buy you meat online would be amazing as I don't live in London so to stock up on goodies for a month would be invaluable.

You should link to Jamie Olivers campaign!...

Most definitely! I think if you gave guidance on cuts of meat to the less sophisticated amongst us, it'd be a hit. Don't think I've actually been able to find a decent belly of pork for sale anywhere...

We would definitely buy online, as we can't realistically travel to London on a regular basis!. It comes so highly recommended .. "as best Pork ever tasted" and that's from somebody who used to hate pork!!.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

living in Pickering a way to buy your product locally to the farm would do me - seems mad it all heads so far south. Even if you can't mail order you could do some kind of product & price list for local collection days with a e-mail based or online order system - PLEASE

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

i often buy at ginger pig.the meat is superb.what annoys me is no price list[used to]-i like to know the price before i buy.i don,t know what ;rich customers ;they get through the door- but even less rich wants to eat meat with the taste as it use to be in the old days,SO PUT YOUR PRICE LIST UP BEFORE I GET TOO ANNOYED AND CALL THE REGULATORS
- Ginger Pig replies all the shops have a price list on display, if asked the butchers know the price per item and are happy to let you know.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

We live in Norfolk. We regularly (every 3 months) get the train to London and stay the night in a hotel close to Borough Market. We always bring an empty "wheelie" case. After our night in the hotel, we fill the "wheelie" with sausages and pies from Ginger Pig (as well as goods from other stalls it must be said) and take them home to freeze. If only we could get your sausages, chipolatas and pies on line .... sigh. We have good butchers in Norfolk who I can get fresh meat from, but your other products - please make them available on line!

By Tommo on   Monday, March 22, 2010 12:16 PM

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

We come to London from Norfolk 2/3 times a year and stock up on sausages etc at Borough Market for our freezer. But we would so much prefer to be able to buy on line as well. Please start an on line ordering service.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

Having been spoilt by your deli at Pickering, I formed a particularl addiction to your chorizo sauasage (slow-cooked in a chicken basque it is incredibly moreish!) but sadly no more! It does seem terribly unfair that I live in North Yorkshire andyet have no access to your lovely locally reared produce! It seems the posts here have been saying much the same for 2yrs so why still no online shop?

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

yes please! I'm at work from 9-6, and I don't come into London at the weekends, so I can't make it into your shops any more. I used to live round the corner from Borough Market and bought literally all my meat there. I miss it! Now I'm practically an involuntary vegetarian... Please do set up an online store—there seem to be loads of us who'd buy from it.

Re: Buying Ginger Pig Meat online.

I think this would definitely be an excellent service to offer - I am a coeliac based in Nottingham and often struggle with certain meat products like sausages and burgers, normally missing out completely. My boyfriend (who is London based) took me to Borough Market at the weekend and bought me a selection of your gluten free sausages to have at our BBQ - seriously - you have made my year! I love my food and I was simply overjoyed at being able to enjoy a 'proper' sausage! I think an online service would open your company up to a whole new growing niche market of wheat allergy sufferers! Go for it! PLEASE!
